Patty S. Hutcheson, CFSP, Named New APFSP Executive Director

The APFSP Executive Director Search Committee is very pleased to announce their selection for Executive Director. Patty S. Hutcheson, CFSP, of Buchan, Georgia, has been appointed to serve as Executive Director of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. The Search Committee was comprised of the entire Board of Trustees and Past Presidents John "Jay" Rhodes, CFSP, and Diana Duksa Kurz, CFSP. 

Mrs. Hutcheson has taught Grief Psychology and Restorative Art for more than 25 years at Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. She was named President of the College in 2000. She holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Truett-McConnell College, an Associate of Science Degree from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service and Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in English from the University of West Georgia.
Patty is a Georgia Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner, and is Past-President of the American Board of Funeral Service Education.

She and her husband, Danny, own Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel and Crematory in Buchanan, Georgia, which they started in 1984. Danny served on the APFSP Board of Trustees and is a Past President of the Academy.  Their daughter, Kathryn, and son-in-law, Chase Croft, are also licensed Funeral Directors and Embalmers working in the family business. Patty is active in her church, Buchanan United Methodist Church, serving as Lay Leader and Sunday School teacher and is a certified Lay Speaker in the North Georgia Conference. She was elected to the Buchanan City Council in 2011.
